rock the classroom 501(c)(3) restores music education in underserved public elementary schools by teaching an original standards based "Literacy Through Music" curriculum. Our professional musicians use music and songwriting to complement the literacy curriculum schools are required to teach while providing a creative musical experience otherwise missing from the classroom.
By integrating
music into existing curriculum, rock the classroom provides an inspiring creative experience sorely missing from most classrooms,
while helping teachers improve key academic skills such as reading, writing,
and comprehension.

Barbra Streisand and The Barbra
Streisand Foundation

Dear Friends of rock the classroom,
I am delighted to announce that rock the classroom has just merged with Woodcraft Rangers -- an outstanding 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission complementary to our own.
Woodcraft Rangers has a proud 87 year history of providing innovative and creative programs for children and youth in the under-served areas of greater Los Angeles. Currently, Woodcraft Rangers serves over 18,000 at-risk young people annually through enriching after-school and camping programs. The organization’s programs are responsive to social trends and designed to help children mature into healthy, productive adults through positive experiences and age-appropriate challenges.
Through Woodcraft Rangers, rock the classroom will be able to reach four times as many students than we ever reached before. Soon, Woodcraft Rangers will be implementing a strategic plan for national expansion and plans to use rock the classroom as their flagship offering to schools throughout the country.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us, as the marriage of Woodcraft Rangers’ experience, staff, and infrastructure with our program will insure rock the classroom’s growth and stability for years to come. As part of that marriage, our board chair Richard Foos and some of our other board members will be joining the board of Woodcraft Rangers, and I will be working with Woodcraft Rangers as a consultant to effect this transition and help plan for our program’s very promising future.
I want to thank all of you for all your support and encouragement throughout our five year history. It has never been easy taking our “Literacy Through Music” program from a new concept to an actual program that has served thousands of children, particularly during this great recession. So I feel especially grateful that while many other worthy nonprofits have had to reduce staff and services just to survive, rock the classroom has created a way to thrive.
Again, thank you so much for your support these past years. We sincerely hope you will continue on this amazing journey with us as part of our new Woodcraft Rangers family.
Regards,
Bradley Kesden
